Walker Morris recruits former Deloitte head

LAW firm Walker Morris has announced that it has appointed former Deloitte managing partner, Stuart Counsell, as its first non-executive board director.

Mr Counsell spent more than 30 years at Deloitte, during which time he held a variety of senior management positions including managing partner of the 17 UK regional offices and latterly managing partner finance and legal.

During his tenure as Deloitte’s managing partner finance and legal, he was responsible for the financial and legal aspects of a £2bn professional services business.

He was also heavily involved in the firm’s continuous systems improvement and acquisition programmes.

Walker Morris is based in Leeds and advises clients in the region as well as nationally and internationally.

Walker Morris managing partner, Ian Gilbert, said: “We are delighted to have recruited someone of Stuart’s calibre and experience. As our very first appointment of a non executive director we wanted someone who not only had knowledge and experience of operating at the highest level in the professional services industry but also understood the unique culture and ethos of Walker Morris.

“I have no doubt that Stuart’s involvement will be invaluable in helping us to develop our business going forward.”

Mr Counsell commented: “I’m very much looking forward to renewing my relationship with Walker Morris, a firm I worked closely with on many corporate finance engagements while at Deloitte. I’ve seen at first hand their strong service and performance culture and I’m pleased to be part of their ongoing growth and success.”

His appointment is the latest in a series of initiatives which has seen the recruitment of a property finance litigation team with 22 lawyers and the strengthening of its competition practice with the recruitment of a leading competition lawyer Trudy Feaster-Gee from Lloyds Bank.
