Humberside Airport secures Centrica deal

CENTRICA has signed a £29m contract with CHC Helicopter which will see it operate aircraft from Humberside Airport.

The three-year contract, by Centrica Storage and Centrica Energy, with options for a two year extension, secures an improved helicopter service to meet its operational needs across key oil and gas fields in the North Sea.

In the Southern North Sea, offshore helicopter operator, CHC, will operate an AW139 aircraft out of Humberside Airport from November, to support Centrica’s offshore activities, including the York and Rough platforms. Energy company Centrica said it is relocating its flight operations from Yarmouth.

The move will see Canadian company CHC invest more resources in Humberside whilst maintaining its current base in North Denes.

Paul Litten, commercial director at Humberside International airport said: “We are delighted that Centrica Energy will be joining with Centrica Storage to operate from our airport and that CHC, one of our major helicopter partners, has secured this contract, bringing another helicopter to our facility.

“Centrica are a key customer and a major employer within the region.  We have worked hard with Centrica to understand their requirements for aviation development and believe that our airport is ideally placed to help support and build Centrica’s offshore gas storage and exploration development, now and in the future”.

Mark Abbey, CHC’s regional director for West North Sea, said: “The award of this contract demonstrates our flexibility in helping our customers go further and do more in the North Sea.

“The energy sector remains strong with both Humberside and North Denes a key part of our readiness to respond to our customers’ increasing needs for helicopter services in 2013 and beyond.”

Flights to the central and northern North Sea will be run out of Aberdeen.

Earlier this year, TheBusinessDesk.com reported that Centrica’s UK activities support 17,900 jobs in Yorkshire and the Humber.
