Spencer set to carry out impressive bridge project

ENGINEERING specialist Spencer Group has been appointed to carry out work on the worlds’ largest bridge dehumidification project.
The Great Belt Bridge in Denmark links the eastern and western parts of the country, part of which – the East Bridge – is the third largest suspension bridge in the world. With a span of more than 1.6km, it is almost 15% longer than the Humber Bridge.
Hull-based Spencer is set to carry out the project using its trademarked bridge access gantry system, the Cable Crawler.
The Cable Crawler was designed and developed by Spencer specifically to give high-level access to main cables on suspension bridges which allows for rapid execution of a variety of improvement, maintenance and remedial projects.
Project director, Jim Mawson, said: “This project is the biggest of its kind in the world. We have a proud history of bridge dehumidification and will be using the Cable Crawler to carry out the works.”
Spencer is widely considered the world-leader in the installation of dehumidification technology. The company boasts unrivalled experience after completing the then world’s largest retro-fitted dehumidification project on the Humber Bridge in 2010.
