Major contract win for Soltens

SOLTENS – part of Europe’s largest co-product purchasing group Soltens B.V. – has won a major contract to remove and recycle potato by-products from four of McCain’s UK factories.

The five-year contract, which involves sites in Scarborough, Peterborough, Wolverhampton and Lincolnshire, was awarded after a competitive tendering process which saw the food processor’s incumbent contractor replaced by the West Yorkshire firm.

Pontefract-based Soltens will start work on the sites from August 1 and will handle a variety of items such as potato peel.

The co-products will then be sold on to farmers via Soltens’ sister company Duynie, as a cost effective alternative to compound animal feeds.

Jonathan Job, procurement manager at the company, described the contract as a ‘significant win’ for the firm which bolstered its position in the UK market place.

He said: “McCain is an iconic company in the UK and for us to secure this contract is a source of great pride.”
