£500,000 invested in new Hull wi-fi network

TELECOMS company Connexin has invested over £500,000 in a new wi-fi network across Hull.
The network covers almost every home and business in the city with plans to extend the service further afield in the coming months.
Connexin believes the carrier-grade network will increase competition for superfast broadband in the city, therefore attracting more businesses to the area.
Managing director, Furqan Alamgir, said: “We have got a really good digital economy in Hull and our service is bringing more competition into the area.
“Our network will increase the competition for superfast broadband services in Hull, where KC traditionally dominates the market for telecoms.
“I think it will be really good for the local economy. We hope it will help attract new businesses to the area.”
Last year, the company signed an exclusive agreement with Hull City Council to install wireless access points on top of high-rise buildings across the city.
The completed network has been built to “carrier-grade” standards so it can support both domestic and business users who want superfast download and upload speeds.
In the coming months, Connexin is looking to expand the coverage to the East Riding, including Kirk Ella, North Ferriby, Brough and Beverley.
Mr Alamgir said: “We are looking at expanding the network further and increasing speeds over the next six months.
“If there is demand in a region we can take the network to them.”
