Entrepreneur acquires eighth Yorkshire pub

A NORTH Yorkshire entrepreneur has bought its eighth pub in the last two years.

Richard Sykes, who runs West Park Assets, has  acquired the Angel at Topcliffe, near Thirsk, from Hartlepool-based Camerons Brewery, for an undisclosed sum. Mr Sykes has said he is now seeking further Yorkshire licensed premises to buy.

The Angel will now undergo significant refurbishment and rebranding before re-opening at the end of July.

West Park Assets bought its first North Yorkshire pub when it acquired the Moor & Pheasant at Dalton, near Thirsk, in 2011. Since then, it has become owner of Boroughbridge hostelries the Grantham Arms and Fox & Hounds, Thirsk pubs the Dog & Gun and Ye Olde Three Tuns (now re named The Little 3), Easingwold’s New Inn and the Blue Bell at Arkendale.

The company was advised on the purchase of all eight sites by Phil Gregory and Michael Finnett, of the commercial property team at Yorkshire law firm Gordons.

Mr Sykes said: “One attraction for sellers of doing business with us is the speed at which we conclude the deals, as we normally complete within two weeks. Phil and Michael have always been instrumental in that process, moving efficiently and quickly, as well as displaying impressive knowledge of how deals involving licensed premises work.”

Mr Gregory, a partner at Gordons since 2007, said: “Richard has been a loyal client for about 10 years, so it’s a particular pleasure to help with the pub acquisitions, as these are very important business ventures for him. We wish him every success with his existing portfolio and look forward to assisting as he brings additional purchases to fruition.”

West Park Assets is a sister company to West Park Services, also based In Thirsk, which Mr Sykes founded in 2004.
