IoD plans re-launch of South Yorkshire branch

THE new regional director of the Yorkshire branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) is on the brink of reforming the South Yorkshire arm, as she looks to attract more members and develop learning opportunities.

The South Yorkshire division has been inactive for the last two years. But now, with a new chair to be approved, Suzy Brain England is confident she can have it running again by January.

Ms Brain England, who became regional IoD chair in January, started her new role, vacated by Kenton Robbins, this week. She said she wants to stop geography being a barrier and use partnership opportunities to ensure all areas in Yorkshire have the chance to develop learning programmes.

She said: “There’s a lot of enthusiasm in South Yorkshire. There is a big appetite to learn. I am now looking forward to growing the membership across all branches and increasing the number of directors who develop their learning.

“I want to ensure directors can be better directors, as that will then lead to better businesses in Yorkshire.”

The IoD was established in 1903 and obtained a Royal Charter in 1906. It has around 1,600 members in Yorkshire.

Ms Brain England, who holds a series of directorships in private and public sector organisations and runs her own coaching and mentoring company called Cloud Talking, said: “The IoD is about adding value for the directors and for them to take things away to add to their business.

“Going forward, I think we can expect to see much more energy and vibrancy behind how the Yorkshire IoD operates.

“If you know and understand what you are doing, you can help to generate wealth for the whole region.”

Ms Brain England also plans to re-launch the Director of the Year awards and said she anticipates this event will be held in May.
