Thousands of apprenticeships available in Yorkshire

MORE than 6,000 apprenticeship vacancies are available in Yorkshire and the Humber, according to the National Apprenticeship Service.

Figures across Yorkshire and The Humber include almost 2,000 in West Yorkshire and over 1,000 each in North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and East Yorkshire.

With more than half (52%) of young people in Yorkshire and The Humber wanting to do an apprenticeship if one were available, the National Apprenticeship Service is anticipating today, GCSE results day, to be one of the busiest for young people to apply for apprenticeships.

Sue Price, divisional area director for the National Apprenticeship Service in the North, said: “GCSE results day can be a really stressful time for young people, especially as they wait for their results. The good news is that with ever more apprenticeships, there is an increasing range of high quality options and career paths available to young people.

“Apprenticeships are fast becoming the norm for young people seeking an alternative route to a career than via university. They are a great way for young people to earn while they learn in a real job, gaining a real qualification; setting them on the road to success in their chosen career.”

The figures estimate that over 19,000 local Apprenticeships are now available online for young people across the UK.
