Law firm gets lift from deals

LAW firm Schofield Sweeney has completed more than £400m of property deals.

The Leeds and Bradford-based firm said the deals were from across the UK in Public Finance Initiative (PFI) and Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) schemes.

Schofield Sweeney recently completed its eighth deal, a three phase scheme for the construction of new student accommodation for Buckinghamshire New University, since the end of last year.

Partner Andrew Hurst, who is one of eight lawyers working at the firm in this sector, said: “The volume of PFI and LIFT deals handled by our specialist lawyers means we have developed in-depth expertise in complex legal aspects of these schemes equivalent to large, national law firms.

Other public-private-partnership deals completed by Schofield Sweeney during 2008 include Bradford & Airedale LIFT – a £15m development in Bingley, for Bradford & Airedale Care Partnerships; a £3m refurbishment and new-build of Elmhurst Intermediate Care Facility at Winsford, for Central and Eastern Cheshire Primary Care Trust; and a £19m health centre development in Hartlepool for Tees and Hartlepool LIFT.
