Fibrelite scores with Premier League stadium deal

FIBRELITE, the Yorkshire firm which supplies composite manhole covers, has scored with a contract from a Premier League Stadium.

Fibrelite’s composite trench covers have recently been installed at Manchester City’s stadium to replace damaged steel covers.

Ian Thompson, managing director at the Skipton-based company, which won the Yorkshire Exporter award at last year’s Yorkshire Business Masters event, said: “The damage caused to the previously installed steel covers was caused by heavy vehicles requiring frequent access for concerts.

“The maintenance team at the stadium also wanted to solve the manual handling and safety issues which were associated with the cumbersome steel covers previously in use. The facility, which holds approximately 20 home football games and ten concerts every year, required lightweight composite trench covers offering the best strength to weight ratio.”

He added: “Fibrelite’s trench covers are proven to be ergonomically safe for men and women to remove and replace. The design incorporates two lifting points for a specially designed lifting aids.

“These allow operators to remove the cover without trapping fingers or bending over thus maximising the safety of the lifting technique. The weight is kept close to the body preventing back injury; one of the main causes of absence from work and personal injury claims.”
