York Potash buys farm on proposed mine land

YORK Potash, the subsidiary of Sirius Minerals, has bought a farm on the site intended for the proposed potash mine.

The acquisition of Dove’s Nest Farm near Sneaton, Whitby, includes farm buildings, a farmhouse and three separate holiday accommodation units.

Chris Fraser, managing director and CEO of Sirius, said: “There is no greater evidence of our determination to achieve the approval and completion of this project than our purchase of Dove’s Nest farm, the proposed location of the mine.”

The farm will remain occupied and operational in advance of the approvals process being completed for the project.

Earlier this week, the company, said it is considering withdrawing its current planning application for the project and resubmitting a fresh application. The company said submitting a fresh application, rather than “refurbishing” an existing application, would simplify planning documentation and would also allow the company to focus its case around those matters of outstanding concern to the North York Moors National Park Authority.
