Firms urged to discover a world of opportunities on their doorstep

AMBITIOUS local businesses looking to explore the world of export can capitalise on a dedicated week of activity offering expert guidance and insight.
Export Week, from November 11-15, is targeted at newcomers to the global arena, small and medium enterprises keen to expand into Europe and beyond to drive sales and expand their customer base.
Organised by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), the aim of the programme is to promote the benefits of international trading, highlight opportunities in specific markets and outline the support available to set companies on their way.
UKTI is teaming up with a host of partners and business organisations to run a number of events, including the showpiece ExploreExport on November 12, which offers a chance of face-to-face meetings with experts representing British Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates in more than 60 different countries.
Mark Robson, UKTI’s regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “We’re keen for as many local businesses as possible to support Export Week, attend our events and find out more about the opportunities available in overseas markets.
“There’s still a perception in some quarters that exporting is only for the big boys, and that some companies are too small or niche to compete in the international marketplace. That couldn’t be further from the truth. We have a wealth of enterprising SMEs across the region achieving success in all corners of the globe, and the message is simple: They can do it, and so can you!
“Although most of the events are targeted at newcomers, ExploreExport will also suit experienced exporters looking to expand into new regions and accelerate their global expansion. You can travel to every continent from the heart of Leeds and gain expert first-hand insight from seasoned officials on the ground.”
The full schedule is as follows:
• Monday November 11: ‘Can You Export?’, Advanced Manufacturing Park, Rotherham
• Tuesday November 12: ‘ExploreExport’, Queens Hotel, Leeds
• Wednesday November 13: ‘Can You Export?’, Village Hotel, Tingley
• Thursday November 14: ‘Can You Export?’, Hallmark Hotel, North Ferriby; and ‘Can You Export’, Europarc Innovation Centre, Grimsby‘
• Friday November 15: ‘The World of Exporting’, Mercure St Paul’s hotel , Sheffield
The week will also see the launch of an International Business Festival around next year’s Grand Depart for the Tour de France on Wednesday, November 13 at Brasserie Blanc, Leeds. UKTI will announce a programme to tie in with the major cycling spectacle and to capitalise on the global interest it will bring Yorkshire.
