Plastics firm discovers prestige benefits

THE move from the affordable to the prestige car market is paying off for technical plastics group Carclo.

The Ossett-based business, which supplies plastic components and produces specialist lighting products for high performance cars by Porsche, Lotus and Bentley, said that it had completed its withdrawal from the “lower margin automotive customers” and that it continued to win new deals for its lighting based on new high-power LED technology.

Carclo said that its medical plastics division was also performing well and that despite significant increases in energy costs increased profits from new tooling contracts were expected to “fully compensate” any increases.

Around three quarters of the company’s sales come from the supply of fine tolerance, injection moulded plastic components, which are used in medical, optical and electronics products.

The remainder are from the supply of specialised precision products to the premium automotive and aerospace industries.

The group recently bought French aerospace cables business Jacottet Industrie, in a deal worth up to £2.3m.

It will announce its interim results for the period to September 30 on November 25.
