Internet security firm storms ahead with growth plans

INTERNET security firm RandomStorm says it is on the hunt for larger premises for the second time in three years and now aims to focus on international expansion.

The news follows the Wetherby-based company’s ranking by The Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA as one of the fastest-growing technology companies in Europe and among the top five fastest growing companies in the north of England, with a revenue increase of 1,062% in five years.

RandomStorm provides a combination of security products that scan IT networks for signs of attack or malware and consultancy services that test clients’ networks for any vulnerabilities that could enable a thief to steal payment card information, or sensitive data.

Founded in 2007 by Robin Hill and Andrew Mason, the £4m turnover company with net profit of just under £1m, employs 55 people and its customers include premier league football clubs, major retailers, legal firms and national transport company, Go-Ahead.

Mr Hill said: “We have started as a family, we started to grow and became a team and the next thing for us is to become a machine – a larger organisation. That is the challenge for us now. We want to expand and raise our game.”

Hill said the business is opening a London office early January, which it will use as a blue print for international expansion. RandomStorm has a sales presence in the Middle East, too.

Hill added: “It has been a really enjoyable journey and it has been great watching the company grow.

“And to be recognised by Deloitte is a very proud moment for us.”

Two other Yorkshire won a place on the prestigious list – Leeds-based software testing provider The Test People, which took home the Innovator award at TheBusinessDesk.com’s Masters Awards earlier this year, and Oriium Consulting, the IT service provider with operations in Harrogate and Wetherby.

Matthew Hughes, Deloitte partner leading on the technology sector in Yorkshire and the North East, said: “Being one of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in EMEA is an impressive accomplishment. We commend all three of our Yorkshire based companies for making the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA with phenomenal growth rates over five years.”
