MKM Building Supplies has been crowned Independent Builders’ Merchant of the Year for the seventh time in nine years at a prestigious industry awards ceremony.

The Hull business won the title in the ‘six branches or greater category’ at the ceremony.

MKM also triumphed in the two other categories it was shortlisted in, meaning the company won every award it was nominated for.

Alan Patterson, director of MKM’s Perth branch, won branch manager of the year at the ceremony and Glenn Paddison, who works at the firm’s Anlaby branch, walked away with the trainee of the year award.

Chief executive David Kilburn said he was “over the moon” that the company had won the title for a seventh time, which he said was testament to continued innovation within the firm, and the quality of the people it employs.

He said: “I am tremendously proud that the small business I started nearly 20 years ago has grown into the success story it is today. Being presented with awards like this brings home how far we have come.”
