Appointments: Spencer Group; Bridge McFarland; Langleys Solicitors; Precision Drilling

ONE of Britain’s most experienced rail industry figures, David McLoughlin, has joined the Spencer Group as chief executive of its rail business, Spencer Rail.
McLoughlin is currently the finance and commercial director for the Infrastructure Projects division within Network Rail.
Spencer Rail will be forming a new rail infrastructure business and this will be led by managing director, Raj Sinha, who has successfully spearheaded the growth and delivery of £200m of rail works in the last two years. A new MD for projects, which will be a separate business, will be appointed in due course.
Spencer Group CEO, Charlie Spencer, said: “David McLoughlin has a vital role to play in setting the strategic direction of the business and the delivery of our key outputs. We need a strong talent base from the rail industry and beyond to help us meet that challenge and David will play a pivotal role in this. He brings with him decades of invaluable experience, providing first-hand expertise of the wide range of issues facing Network Rail, other infrastructure managers and train operators as the industry works together to deliver a better railway for passengers and freight operators.”

A NEW partner has joined the growing team of commercial and employment experts at expanding law firm Bridge McFarland.
Nicola Barrass joins the practice from a rival firm in Hull in a bid to strengthen the firm’s specialist employment law department.
Bridge McFarland has recently taken additional office space near the city’s marina to accommodate growth.

The Corporate Commercial team at Langleys Solicitors in York has further strengthened its corporate offering with the appointment of partner Christian Hunt.
Hunt joins the firm from Leeds-based Clarion, where he was a partner for six years. His expertise includes mergers and acquisitions, management buy outs and buy ins, reorganisations, refinancing and disposals.
Langleys, which has offices in York and Lincoln, predicts a 10% increase in revenue for this financial year.

SPECIALIST construction contractor Precision Drilling has appointed a finance manager as part of its expansion plans.
Tony Appleyard joins the Hull-based company, which specialises in drilling, to assist with new work in the renewables, nuclear, oil, gas, coastal defence and military defence sectors.
Managing director, Ian Wilkinson, said: “Tony is very analytical and hard working and brings a wealth of finance skills, which will become increasingly important as we continue to invest, expand and grow the company.This is a newly created position and his guidance is already proving to be invaluable while allowing myself to focus on other aspects of our day-to-day operations.”
The company, which also has a depot in Leeds, works on projects UK-wide with a focus on Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, the Midlands and the North West. It has an annual turnover of £500,000 and employs nine staff.
