Chinese delegates visit Yorkshire

A DELEGATION from the city of Qingdao in China has visited Yorkshire to further strengthen legal ties between the two territories.

Leeds-based law firm Walker Morris hosted the visit.

Specialist lawyers from Walker Morris regularly advise both UK firms trading with China and Chinese companies selling products and services to the West.

The delegation, made up of a number of Qingdao’s law firms and the President of Qingdao Lawyers Association, came to Yorkshire to explain the importance which China places on strengthening relationships with the key cities in the UK such as Leeds.

The delegation also met Alan Baker, chairman of Leeds Law Society, and Deborah Green, chief executive of Marketing Leeds.

Debbie Jackson, partner in the China trade practice group at Walker Morris, said: “We are delighted to welcome the delegation from Qingdao to Walker Morris. Their visit strengthens our existing links with China and complements the expertise we offer our clients with Chinese interests.”

Meanwhile, senior managers from a major Chinese industrial group, on a continuing professional development course at the University of York, have visited one of the city’s major employers.

The 14 Chinese delegates from Jilin Forest Industry Group were on a bespoke marketing programme prepared by the university’s corporate training unit.

The delegates met managers and toured facilities at Portakabin as part of the five-day continuing professional development workshop.

The workshop was organised after University of York alumnus, Xin Zhang, who now works for Jilin, approached Amanda Selvaratnam, Head of the University’s Corporate Training Unit for help.
