Appointments: BHP; DAC Beachcroft; Yorkshire Bank; Gripple

BARBER Harrison & Platt (BHP), the independent firm of chartered accountants, has announced the appointment of new tax partner Chris Humphreys.

He joins BHP from BDO where he previously acted as head of tax for the Yorkshire region, and also partner in charge of the Sheffield office.

His appointment follows the retirement of tax partner Peter Cross and forms part of the firm’s succession planning. In his new role at BHP Humphreys will provide advisory services that cover the full range of taxes.

THREE lawyers have been promoted in the Leeds office of law firm DAC Beachcroft.

Louise Bloomfield, employment and pensions, Kathy Farmer, practice governance and risk, and Daniella McGuigan, employment and pensions have all been made partner.

YORKSHIRE Bank has strengthened its support for growing South Yorkshire businesses, with four new appointments at its Business and Private Banking Centre in Sheffield.

The significant expansion of the team sees the appointment of a new commercial business relationship manager and three new business development managers.

David Potts, a chartered banker with more than 30 years experience in the sector, joins the team as a relationship manager. He has been with Yorkshire Bank for his entire career and moves to his new role after nine years as the bank’s small business relationship manager in the region.

The appointment of three new business development managers will further strengthen Yorkshire Bank’s presence in the region as it welcomes Sharon Mapplebeck, Steven Brown and Lynsey Smith.

WITHIN 18 months of joining Gripple under its inaugural graduate recruitment programme, Glenn Bills has become the first product manager at its sister company Loadhog, Sheffield’s transit packaging innovator.

Armed with a first class degree in business and enterprise management from Sheffield Hallam University, Bills became a graduate trainee at Gripple, the wire joiner manufacturer, after making it through  a selection process.

Throughout the graduate programme he undertook projects in accounts, sales, ideas and innovations, marketing and production, which culminated in him being appointed as a junior product manager at Gripple.

Whilst in this position his talents were spotted by Loadhog, which was looking for someone with commercial ability who would also be charged with the research and development of new products.

Bills said: “I relish the prospect of talking to customers and playing my part in realising the vision which the company has set out recently. This focuses on the development of new products across global markets and I look forward to working with the excellent design team we have here.”
