Communisis announces further job cuts in Yorkshire

COMMUNISIS today announced it is to cut 75 jobs at its Leeds-based printing operation.

The group, which specialises in personalised customer communications for major banks and retailers, said it plans to cut back production at its Cross Green factory as a response to declining direct mail volumes.

The business has began a consultation with staff and it said the planned cuts would result in an estimated exception charge of £1.5m in the second quarter.

Communisis said that its other sites in Leeds and Copley in Halifax will not be affected by the proposal.

Chief executive Andy Blundell, said: “Communisis operates in fast-changing markets and each of our three segments faces different opportunities and challenges. We continue to invest in our growth strategy to build a comprehensive range of integrated services, whilst also taking any necessary action to adjust our production capability in more mature areas. Overall our view on the outlook for 2014 remains unchanged.”

The group said today in an interim management statement that trading to the end of March was in line with expectations.

Communisis will announce interim results for the six month period to June 30, on July 31.
