Appointments: East Riding of Yorkshire Council;Baker Tilly ; John Good Shipping; Rollits

COUNCILLOR Pat O’Neil was elected to be the new chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council this month and will serve until May 2015.
Coun O’Neil, who lives in Goole, is a councillor for Goole South and has been an East Riding of Yorkshire councillor for more than 12 years. She is the leader of Goole Town Council and has been mayor of Goole twice.
Coun O’Neil said: “Having lived and worked in the Goole area for many years, primarily for the health service, I am looking forward to my year as the council’s chairman. The role involves getting out and about meeting people and one of my first engagements as chairman was to re-launch Saturday Market in Beverley.”
Councillor O’Neil’s nominated charity for the year is CLIC Sargent, a charity for children and young people with cancer.

ACCOUNTANCY firm Baker Tilly has appointed John Brien as associate director in its private client tax team in Leeds.
In his new role, Brien, who joins Baker Tilly from law firm Gordons, will be responsible for advising trust clients on tax planning and administration.
Brien has 16 years’ experience of working in private client tax teams in some of the city’s major accountancy and legal firms including Gordons, Menzies and Deloitte.
Steve Brown, Baker Tilly’s head of Private Client Tax in Leeds, said: “We are currently experiencing strong demand for tax planning services, particularly among high net worth individuals. John brings with him significant experience and local knowledge, and he will be a huge asset to our private client base here in Yorkshire.”

JOHN Good Shipping, a subsidiary of the Hull-based John Good Group, has announced the latest expansion of its global activities with the appointment of a dedicated UK trade manager.
Peter Shan will be based in Shanghai within the offices of the John Good Group’s partner, Fiege International Freight Forwarder (China) Co. This exciting development signifies the intent of John Good to further grow its business operations in China, whilst offering an enhanced range of supply chain management and value added services at both origin and destination.
This close co-operation with Fiege, the pioneer of contract logistics, brings two independent, family-owned businesses together with more than 300 years’ combined experience in the logistics sector. Although its headquarters are in Germany, Fiege has eight offices and more than 27,500 m2 of warehousing throughout China, and employs 11,000 staff in 17 countries.

YORKSHIRE-based law firm Rollits has announced the promotion of four employees.
The move sees Chris Drinkall and John Flanagan, who had both previously held the position of associate, promoted to partners in the firm. Kate Dixon and Clair Douglas will also make the step up from senior solicitors to associates.
The promotions mark another step forward for all four who all joined the company as trainees.
