Digital era helps 3D visualisation business tap into new markets

DIGITAL innovation is enabling a 3D visualisation and animation studio which works within the property industry to target further expansion.

Virtual Resolution’s projects range from simple modelling and enhanced computer generated stills through to complex video animation. In the property sector, the company, based in Elland, produces 3D visualisations of an architect’s or developer’s proposal.

Director Tim Power, who launched the company in 2009 with fellow director John Hales, said that when companies are invited to tender, they are now expected to have digital submissions, which is where Virtual Resolution comes in.

This year the firm will be investing £40,000 between IT software and enhancing its filming facilities with the installation of a seven-metre wide green screen as it expands after seeing an increase in commissions for its specialist 3D, graphic and architectural visualisation work. It also plans to take staff numbers from six to 14 within the next four years as it widens its offering into the marketing sector, too.

Clients include Asda, Balfour Beatty and local authorities – anyone that has got a new development. Recent work has involved working within student accommodation, retail and office interior projects.

“We’ve gone from strength to strength,” Power said.

“We’re now expanding into marketing work, too, so we can become a one-stop shop.”

Recently, the firm has worked on Leeds’ Wellington Place Scheme and with Town Centre Securities on its refurbishment of the Merrion Centre car park.

The company also works internationally with projects including concept imaging for the Sheraton Hotel in Riyadh and detailed storyboards and animations to showcase the proposed construction timeline for Digicel in Haiti.

Power said Virtual Resolution’s biggest opportunity is in Australia, where it hopes to work with major retail firms.
