John Hudson Trailers drives ahead with funding deal

A FAMILY run company with the largest specialised trailer hire fleet in Europe is to expand its operations to cater for increased demand for its services following a £2.5m cash boost.

Established in 1959, Bawtry-based John Hudson Trailers company hires and sells HGV trailers to UK and international haulage companies and is forecasting strong growth over the next two years as the wider UK economic recovery drives demand for distribution and logistics services.

John Hudson Trailers specialises in the hire of standard and specialist trailers on short and long-term contracts, as well as sales to the firm’s large customer base. It also provides HGV breakdown assistance, spares, tachograph calibration and brake analysis for trucks, trailers and buses. Clients include Prestons of Potto, Kingspan, Select Plant, Martrain, Ryder, UK Coal, West of Scotland Storage and the William Hare Group.

The firm’s current managing director is the son of the founder, while three other current directors are grandsons. The firm now has a team of 50 staff operating on a seven-acre site.

Director John Hudson said: “We have seen a very strong increase in demand for our services and believe now is the perfect time to make this sort of investment. The business is very well positioned to capitalise on positive UK economic growth and I’m confident that the experienced team here will be able to fully meet the firm’s aspirations.”

The funding package was provided by Santander Corporate & Commercial.

Andy Beale, relationship director, said: “The demand for John Hudson’s product and services is driven by national demand for logistics and this is forecast to increase over the next two to three years. Additionally, high capital expenditure costs are resulting in many haulage firms choosing to hire trailers rather than purchase them outright and this has seen an expansion in the firm’s activities. We are delighted to support the future growth of this fantastic company.”
