Yorkshire jobs saved thanks to sale

THE sale of part of a Yorkshire manufacturing business has rescued a number of jobs.
Barnsley-based Galglass, which designs, manufactures and installs steel and concrete storage tanks, was placed into administration earlier this month, leading to the loss of 134 jobs.
However, Keith Marshall and David Whitehouse of Duff & Phelps, the joint administrators of Galglass, have announced they’ve sold certain premises, plant and intellectual property relating to concrete tanks and industrial epoxy-coated tanks to part of the Aberdeen-based Balmoral Group.
Marshall said: “I am delighted to announce the completion of this sale to Balmoral. Balmoral will look to re-employ some of the people made redundant when Galglass entered administration, and use these assets as a route to expand their business through the wider product range they will be able to take to market.”
Balmoral Tanks is a division of Balmoral Group Holdings. The group comprises a number of distinct business units and divisions including Balmoral Tanks, Balmoral Offshore Engineering and Balmoral Park. Employing more than 400 people, the group has been providing solutions to the building, civil and environmental engineering, energy, marine, polymer engineering and processing sectors since 1980.
Galglass had an annual turnover in excess of £20m. The company operates on both a national and international level and has successfully completed projects in Afghanistan, Malaysia, Australia, Switzerland and Sweden.
