Cartwright looks to future as it marks milestone

A YORKSHIRE-based hardware and architectural ironmongery company that has pushed through the recession is now poised to take advantage of the opportunities the recovery will bring.
Keith Trotter, the managing director of Cartwright Hardware, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month, says that although the last five years have been “challenging” with the pressures of the global recession on the economy and its impact on the construction industry, the business is looking forward to this being the start of the recovery.
“We are seeing signs of increased confidence and that the market is beginning to stabilise. Now is an important time for Cartwright Hardware to build on our success and longevity and move forward through this time of great change,” he says.
“The industry has witnessed the fragmentation of the architectural profession, with older practices disappearing, and being replaced by new, younger revitalised companies, which is bringing a new depth and quality coming out of the recession.
“Cartwright Hardware’s reputation for architectural ironmongery specialising in anti- ligature door furniture in Yorkshire is well established, and we remain focussed on meeting customer needs, and delivering customer satisfaction. I would like to thank all our staff, past and present, for their professionalism, and loyalty in contributing to us achieving this golden achievement of 50 years in business in Leeds.”
Cartwright Hardware, with its foundations in the architectural ironmongery industry in Leeds, originated out of discussions between Joseph Cartwright, owner of a local building firm, and George Cartwright, who were unrelated, and subsequently formed G. Cartwright in 1964.
The company, based on Springwell Road, grew rapidly at this time specifying hardware and architectural ironmongery during the construction of many council estates in West Yorkshire.
Its reputation has grown throughout the Yorkshire & Humber region and beyond, acting as stockists to national companies, and providing bespoke products to order.
Cartwright Hardware continues to focus on its service to core clients working with small builders, estate developers, shop fitters, local councils, and commercial property developers, and supplying leading brands including Hewi, Jebron, Dorma, and Yale.
It recently secured its latest contract with Leeds City Council to supply a full range of hardware.
Cartwright Hardware provides a range of architectural ironmongery and hardware products to meet bespoke specifications and has worked with a diverse range of clients nationally including the Caravan Club, Airedale Hospital, Bradford, and Waterhouse, one of the oldest family-owned building companies in the North.
