Entrants wanted for innovation awards

BUSINESSES, academic departments and entrepreneurs across the region are being invited to enter the Innovator 09 awards.

The annual awards, which are designed to celebrate companies and individuals across Yorkshire who have embraced innovation, developed new ideas, products or technoloties or new ways of working, will see the introduction of six new categories next year – each carrying a £3,000 prize tag.

They include the innovation catalyst award, the international innovation award, the knowledge exploitation award, the open innovation award, product, process service innovation award, and the innovative young company award.

Jim Farmery, assistant director of business for Yorkshire Forward, which co-ordinates the awards said: “Yorkshire and Humber has developed a diverse mixed economy which gives us resilience in difficult times.

“But to remain competitive in the current economic climate companies need to stay ahead of the game and innovation is key to this. It’s more important than ever therefore that we reward companies and individuals for their dedication to innovation in their work – whether this is alone or in partnership.”

The awards were launched this year and have the backing of supporting bodies IoD, CBI, Technology Strategy Board, Research Councils UK, UKTI and Business Link Yorkshire.
