Lawyers head back to school

A GROUP of 200 Leeds lawyers are heading back to school this week to work together in one of the largest ever volunteer projects by the profession in the city.

Partners and staff from 12 firms across the city will take part in Leeds Legal Education and Enterprise week.

Spearheaded by Leeds Legal – the only city-based legal marketing campaign of its kind in the UK – and Leeds Ahead, the next few days will see lawyers helping out in more than 15 primary and secondary schools across the city, with a packed programme of activities.

Tying in with National Enterprise Week, a dozen volunteers joined pupils from four Leeds secondary schools as they took on the national Make your Mark challenge.

Armed with the same secret brief, more than 1,300 children, aged between 14-19 years old, took part in the national competition at four schools across Leeds.

Throughout the week, Leeds Legal’s volunteers will be welcomed at a variety of the city’s schools over the five day volunteer programme, co-ordinated by Leeds Ahead, to help out with a selection of enterprise-related activities.

Alan M. Baker, chairman of Leeds Legal, said: “We’ve had an enthusiastic response to Education and Enterprise Week from law firms across the city. Over the course of this week, almost 200 staff will be taking part, which is a great turn out. It’s a great example of the legal profession working together, to give something back to the young people of Leeds.”
