Rhomberg Sersa announces Doncaster expansion

RAIL group Rhomberg Sersa is expanding its Yorkshire operations – just weeks after establishing a presence in the region.

The multi-national firm, with turnover of more than €300m, took a unit at West Moor Park, Armthorpe, in Doncaster for its UK head office in September.

The Austrian/ Swiss engineering company is now looking to recruit “additional staff” following “increased demand” for its services.

Earlier this year, the company announced that a joint venture with Amey had resulted in a £550m contract with Network Rail to deliver switches and crossing renewals across the north of England and Scotland over the next decade.

This new contract has also resulted in Amey Sersa recruiting to boost its existing team of 30 in the Doncaster area.

Carl Garrud, managing director of Rhomberg Sersa, said: “A strategic decision has been made to maintain our depot in Doncaster to deliver the switches and crossings contract and employ a number of new staff to support the increasing workload.

“We have identified new positions at various levels across a range of disciplines such as technical, supervisory and clerical and a number of motivated and skilled applicants are coming forward.”

Rhomberg Sersa provides manufacturing, installation and design services that “meet the needs of high speed rail infrastructure”.

The company currently pushing to deliver services for the HS2 project.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “There is massive investment taking place in the UK’s rail network and I welcome the news that one of the leaders in this field in Rhomberg Sersa is expanding its operations in Doncaster.

“Doncaster has one of the biggest clusters of specialist rail and engineering companies in the UK and with the national High Speed Rail College set to open its doors in 2017 the town continues to establish itself as the home of rail.

“Doncaster is becoming a hot bed for the growing rail sector which is boosting the local and regional economy. Rhomberg Sersa and our other global players in this sector are providing opportunities for local people to enter an industry that offers high quality, well- paid jobs.”
