Calendar competition proves huge success for Walker Morris

WALKER Morris’s Children’s Charity Calendar Competition has proved a winning formula to help the law firm engage in the local community.

This year, the Leeds-based firm is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its award-winning Children’s Charity Calendar Painting Competition with a special exhibition at the Tetley Gallery in Leeds.

Twenty years ago, partner David Smedley said he didn’t dare to hope it would enjoy this much success 20 years on.

“I never envisaged it would have such longevity,” he said, speaking at the Tetley Gallery. “But when you look around the room, you can really see why it is a winning formula, because the art work speaks for itself. Maybe we were a little unambitious when we launched it.”

Yorkshire artist Ashley Jackson added: “The competition has gone from strength to strength. Walker Morris has had great faith in the children.”

Walker Morris says that as a firm, the competition is something all employees have been extremely proud of. It added that its testament to the support of teachers, schools, clients, staff and members of the public that buy the calendar each year and the children who put so much effort into their paintings.

TheBusinessDesk.com will be featuring interviews with Walker Morris focussed on business investment in the community this week. Earlier this week, Walker Morris highlighted the importance of investment in the region. Click here to read the story and see a short interview.
