Manufacturer set to smash turnover targets

MANUFACTURER Naylor is hoping to smash the £50m turnover mark this year for the first time in its history.

Barnsley’s Naylor, a specialist manufacturer of building and construction products, has grown almost 21% over the course of the last year, fuelled by a number of strategic acquisitions and significant international demand that has seen export levels treble. It has also recently invited £2.2m in a state-of-the-art kiln.

This week, the fourth generation family business founded in 1890,  will show 15 local companies how it adopted a Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) change programme.

“We’ve had a roller-coaster four years since we engaged with MAS, overcoming lots of hurdles and achieving some major wins in the process,” explained Bridie Warner-Adsetts, chief operating officer.

“It hasn’t always been pretty and some tough decisions have been made that have ultimately resulted in a more efficient, strategically positioned business.

“We may just smash the £50m turnover mark this year for the first time in our history.”

Naylor employs ore than 350 people across five sites in Yorkshire, Fife and the West Midlands. That equates to the creation of 100 jobs in the last four years.

Through MAS, Enterprising Barnsley and GrowthAccelerator, Naylor accessed funding towards a marketing review, coaching support, management training and the ‘change programme’ that encompassed all areas of the business.

Stephen Goodare, MAS Advisor, added: “Naylor is a fantastic example of a manufacturer that has tapped into external expertise to accelerate the growth of its business.

“The management team have been receptive to change and, by building on its core engineering and technical skills, has added over £15m of sales to its turnover in just four years.”
