Stanley’s £10,000 Big Lottery Fund windfall

Stanley’s Training Project – a social enterprise based in Cleckheaton – has received £10,000 worth of funding from the Big Lottery Fund to continue to grow and add additional services.

Stanley’s Training Project is a social enterprise that offers a safe haven, training and key life skills to people with learning difficulties and those that find it hard to access education, training or employment.

It supports this work through offering health and social care training to businesses, training of school groups and through the attendance at weekly activity café’s for people with learning difficulties, dementia and their carers.

Stanley’s main aim is to improve the community by getting the people they support into paid or voluntary employment by giving them the skills and confidence to work independently whilst providing a service to the community combining food, arts and music.

Stanley’s Training Project has recently moved into new premises in Cleckheaton’s Westgate.

These premises will act as a hub for the community including a community choir, Arts Activity sessions with Branches, Mencap and hosting the various training courses such as First Aid, Basic Food Hygiene, Manual Handling and many more.

Sara Gill, founder of Stanley’s Training Project, said: “The funding from Big Lottery Fund is absolutely fantastic and will allow us to effectively widen our offering to support more groups within the community across Kirklees. By giving people the skills to help themselves and others we create a better community for all.”

The Big Lottery Fund is responsible for giving out 40% of the money raised for good causes by the National Lottery.

The fund is committed to bringing real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need and has been rolling out grants to health, education, environment and charitable causes across the UK.

Since its inception in 2004 the fund has awarded close to £6bn.
