Charity latest: Beaumont Legal; J9 Advisory; Henry Boot Construction; LYHA

STAFF from Wakefield-based law firm Beaumont Legal have raised more than £6,000 for charity in 2014.

Throughout the year, the 150-strong law firm raised money for good causes that sit close to the hearts of their colleagues, gathering funds for local charities including Wakefield Hospice, Candlelighters, Pontefract Hospice, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and The Huddersfield & Wakefield Rotary Chantry.

Nick Masheder, managing partner at Beaumont Legal, said: “It’s a terrific achievement for our team to have raised this amount of money throughout the year. I’m proud not just of those who have dug deep into their pockets but of everyone who’s put extra effort into things like costumes. Raising money for charities that mean something special to the people who work here has meant that each one has felt personal, which everyone has really got behind.”

National charities supported by the firm include Sport Relief, Marie Curie, Leukaemia & Lymphoma research, Help for Heroes, Shine and Children in Need.

J9 ADVISORY, the Leeds-based finance and restructuring advisory boutique, has launched a Christmas Charity Collection in aid of Support Dogs UK.

Support Dogs is dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life of people with various medical conditions.  They provide, train and support specialist assistance dogs to achieve this. The dogs provide help with everyday tasks and mobility for people with physical disabilities, give advanced warning of seizures for people with epilepsy and provide safety and support for children with autism and their families.

Johnny Abraham, who founded J9 earlier this year, said: “When setting up J9 Advisory, I decided that we should have a chosen charity to support as part of the business.  I have always respected the support and friendship that assistance dogs give the people that they help, therefore when I found Support Dogs UK, which is based in Yorkshire, it jumped out as a perfect cause for J9 Advisory to support.”

STAFF from Henry Boot Construction have volunteered at Sheffield’s Cathedral Archer Project to provide a Christmas dinner for homeless people from across the city.

The company and its subcontractors including Arnold Laver, BBS, HE Barnes, Linden Signs, Eagleport and Protec International also donated £1,000 to the charity to purchase food and other items to support those visiting the Project over the festive period.

Karen Fisher, customer relations manager at Henry Boot Construction, said: “We wanted to do something more than just donating money, and helping out with the Christmas dinner was the perfect opportunity to spend time with some of the people the charity helps and give them a day to remember.”

LEEDS and Yorkshire Housing Association (LYHA) is helping those who are experiencing food poverty this Christmas with a donation of food to the Leeds South and Leeds East Foodbanks run by Trussell Trust.

LYHA has also donated £260 towards the charity’s vital work, through fundraising efforts and in place of sending out a company Christmas card.

Over recent weeks colleagues have been collecting much-needed supplies from the foodbank’s shopping list and delivered them to the Leeds South distribution centre in Belle Isle. The foodbanks provide vital support to areas of Leeds where more than a third of the LYHA homes are located including its largest scheme, The Elmetes in Roundhay.
