Former army officer to lead independent retailer Nisa

INDEPENDENT retailer Nisa has appointed a new chief executive to drive its expansion plans forward.
Nick Read joins the Scunthorpe-based retailer from Thomas Cook, where he was commercial operations director, and replaces Neil Turton who announced last September that he would be leaving the role he had held since 2007.
Nisa is a £1.6bn-turnover business which supports independent retailers across the UK, represents almost 1,200 registered shareholders operating over 2,500 stores.
Mr Read will lead the company as it continues to expand in the rapidly growing convenience sector. With ambitious plans for the future, Nisa recently reported strong growth in the recruitment of new independent retailers and of its Heritage own brand range.
“I’m looking forward to working with the board and members to ensure that Nisa delivers on its potential,” said Mr Read. “I am passionate about delivering unparalleled service for the customer and I look forward to bringing to Nisa my experience with multi-channel customer organisations so we deliver a winning experience for members and customers”
Former army officer Mr Read, who will take up the position next month, started his business career at Aldi where he worked his way up to Purchasing Director, before moving on to roles at Deloitte, Tesco, HBOS, Lloyds Banking Group and Vodafone.
Christopher Baker, chairman of Nisa, added: “Nick’s mix of strategic and operational experience and his strong focus on the customer set him apart. He impressed us as the ideal candidate for the CEO role at Nisa, and I believe his management style, commitment and enthusiasm for the Nisa model will enable him to engage with all stakeholders throughout the business.”
