WEETWOOD Hall in Leeds has become the first hotel in Yorkshire & Humber to achieve the Investors in People (IIP) Gold status.

SPEND management software business Science Warehouse has won a new contract and is taking on four new members of staff.

The Leeds-based firm will provide software to St George’s University of London that will help it secure better value from the services it buys.

It has also handed jobs to Gillian Parry, Andrew Jones, Daniel O’Leary and Holly Adamthwaite.

ENGINEERING consultancy Grontmij has been appointed to help East Riding Council’s flood planning.

The Leeds-based firm has been asked to look at the costs and benefits of drawing up a “surface water management plan”  for Burstwick in a contract worth £50,000.

Chris Wotherspoon, technical director for Grontmij, said: “In consultation with the principal stakeholders, we will be identifying flood risks within the catchment and investigating mitigation measures.
 
“The area has suffered severe flooding in the recent past and, although construction works are ongoing or programmed to reduce the fluvial flood risks in places, there are still residual risks.”

MONTPELIER Chartered Accountants, an adviser to SMEs in the food and drink sector, is hosting a food and drink event at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford, fronted by Brian Turner, one of the country’s best-known chefs and restaurateurs.

The forum, in association with the Yorkshire Regional Food Group, takes place tomorrow and is expected to attract around 70 of the region’s speciality food producers and drinks companies.

Alongside Mr Turner there will be a panel of experts including Trevor Millen, food consultant and a former divisional chief executive of leading canned food manufacturer Princes Group, Mark Bower, a web and social media expert at Cool Pink, and Robert Jackson, chief executive of Montpelier Chartered Accountants.

Journalist and broadcaster Mark Edwardson will chair the event and take questions from the audience.

Mr Jackson said: “Even though the economy remains tough, entrepreneurs need to plan ahead to capitalise on an upturn and take their businesses through to the next phase of growth.

“The event is a platform for businesses to raise issues, share concerns and ideas, and gain valuable advice from a panel of experts from within the local food and drink industry.”
