Morrisons’ multi-million Ant & Dec contract cancelled

THE advertising contract between Morrisons and television presenters Ant and Dec has come to an end, after Morrisons reported poor results last week.

Ant and Dec have starred in a series of advertisements with Morrisons over the past two years since signing their first contract in January 2013.

The supermarket has previously used a number of high-profile names, including Andrew Flintoff, Richard Hammond, Lulu and Nick Hancock.

Although it is unclear who dropped who, Morrisons has had a difficult few years with ongoing price wars with competitors and the enroaching on the market of discount supermarkets Aldi and Lidl.

Last week, Morrisons said that it would be closing 23 under-performing stores and reported that sales were down nearly £900m to £16.8bn and underlying pre-tax profits down more than half to £345m.

And chairman Andy Higginson said it had slashed the value of its property portfolio by £1.3 billion.
