Morrisons’ HQ staff told to get their feet on the ground in store

MORRISONS’ chief executive David Potts has urged staff at head office to get their feet on the shop floor over Easter.

Mr Potts has only been in the position since Monday but has already begun his attempts to turn around the fortunes of the struggling supermarket chain after it posted poor results, hit by discounters and increasing price competition.

The 2,000 staff at head office were told that Mr Potts would himself be working in a store over Easter and were urged to follow suit and spend a week in store each year.

It is part of his wider listening initiative which was launched on Facebook this week with a video of the Morrisons’ boss appealing to customers and staff to send in their suggestions and comments on where the Bradford-based supermarket could do better.

Mr Potts said: “I want to listen hard and respond to the views of as many customers and staff as I can.”

His initiative is similar to one announced at Tesco by chief executive Dave Lewis called ‘Feet on the Floor’ instructing head office employees to help staff at their stores.
