Vice chancellor spot at Leeds Beckett filled

A VICE CHANCELLOR has been appointed at Leeds Beckett University to fill the post when Professor Susan Price retires in August this year.
Professor Peter Slee will be taking on the position. He has been the University of Huddersfield’s deputy vice chancellor since 2010, and helped improve the University’s league table position during his tenure there.
His position there will be filled by current pro-vice chancellor (teaching and learning) Tim Thornton.
Professor Slee started at the University of Reading, proceeding to the University of Oxford where he gained a PhD in Modern History before becoming a post doctoral fellow at Manchester and Durham.
Professor Slee has held senior roles in higher education management at Northumbria, Durham and Aston universities and at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) where he was head of Education Policy.
David Lowen, chair of the board of governors at Leeds Beckett, said: “[Professor Slee] has a wealth of experience in the sector and an in-depth knowledge of the local and regional environment within which our university operates.
“I would like to congratulate Professor Price on all her achievements and thank her for her dedication to Leeds Beckett University over the last five years.”
Professor Slee said: “Under Professor Susan Price’s inspiring leadership the University is now very well placed to take advantage of the new opportunities the city of Leeds will gain from greater regional decentralisation.
“I am proud to be joining a University which makes such a powerful and positive contribution to the social, economic and cultural wellbeing of the communities it serves, and through its commitment to world class learning transforms the lives of lives of so many people”
