JCT600 drives through £1bn barrier

CAR dealership JCT600 increased annual sales by £120m as it accelerated through the £1bn barrier in 2014.

The Bradford-based group sells new and used cars through its network of 47 dealerships – 21 in West Yorkshire, with the remainder in the North East, Yorkshire and East Midlands – which operate 19 brands from Mazda to Maserati.

Group sales increased on the back of organic growth, with new car sales rising 12%, and the effects of the acquisition of Gilder Group partway through 2013, which had added nine sites and annualised turnover around £200m.

Chief executive John Tordoff said: “Following our acquisitions from Gilder Group in 2013, last year was about bringing the new businesses into the JCT600 fold, and furthering our aims to grow the best car retail business, as well as being the best place to shop for a car.

“Out performing the market in new car sales is a signal that our retail offering, service standards and pricing are winning over customers in a market which boasts plenty of choice, and that’s down to good strategy, great colleagues and hard work.”

Operating profit before goodwill and exceptionals rose 14%, to £23.2m, reflecting the 13% increase in sales.

The family firm, which is 70 years old next year, employs more than 2,000 staff.
