Raise a glass for Yorkshire’s Pub of the Year 2015

THE winner of the prestigious accolade of Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub of the Year, announced at the Great Yorkshire Show, has been revealed.

Lee Roberts, owner of The Fleece Inn in the Calderdale village of Barkisland, received his award from Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden

The Bull Inn at West Tanfield came in second place, and the The Royal Oak in Ripon was awarded the title of Yorkshire’s third favourite pub, run by tourism body Welcome to Yorkshire.

Lee Roberts, of The Fleece Inn in Barkisland, said: “We’re absolutely ecstatic, and it really couldn’t have been done without the whole team. We’re so well supported in Barkisland and the locals are fantastic, so we’re really grateful to all of them for supporting us and voting for us.”

Over 850 pubs were nominated and 15,000 votes cast over two stages.

Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “The record number of nominations and votes shows how passionate people are about Yorkshire’s pubs.

“I’d like to congratulate The Fleece Inn on being named Yorkshire’s Favourite, but also every pub that was nominated. Yorkshire’s pubs are truly fantastic and add to our rich heritage for which the region is renowned.”
