Digital demand pushes ZOO’s revenues up

SHEFFIELD firm ZOO Digital has set to work expanding its customer base this year, and with a BBC Worldwide contract, revenues are set to remain on the up.

The subtitling, captioning and localization firm reported revenue up to £7.6m this year, from £6.14m for the year ended 31 March 2014.

The firm also managed to narrow their pretax losses, from £1.72m to £1.37m despite “significant disruption” from corporate activity from one of their largest customers.

The firm won a major contract with BBC Worldwide earlier in the year providing a centralised, searchable system to manage and repurpose all BBC subtitling and captioning assets across the globe.

ZOO Digital has also been approved by Apple to deliver film and television content directly to iTunes and has been appointed as one of four global partners to provide localisation and digital packaging services.

Stuart Green, chief executive of ZOO Digital, said: “We are pleased with the substantial progress of the Group as evidenced by 20% increase in annual revenue and further diversification and expansion of our customer base.

“This was achieved despite significant disruption from corporate activity in one of our largest customers, which depressed trading during the second half.

“Although we have been impacted by continuing changes that have been taking place in the video entertainment industry, we believe that there is a growing demand for digital distribution, localisation and access services.

“Our technology platforms provide us with competitive advantage, the means to capitalise on this opportunity and deliver sustained growth, and we remain cautiously optimistic about the Company’s prospects.”
