Leeds restaurant shines with first Michelin star in 10 years

LEEDS restaurant The Man Behind the Curtain has achieved its first Michelin star, under the ownership of chef Michael O’Hare.

It is the first Michelin star that a Leeds restaurant has had since the closing of Pool Court in 2005.

As Mr O’Hare pointed out on Twitter, Jeff Baker, at the age of 26, won a Michelin Star for Pool Court in 1995.

Yorkshire has maintained its six Michelin-starred restaurants, which include the Pipe and Glass Inn in South Dalton The Box Tree at Ilkley, The Star at Harome The Yorke Arms at Pateley Bridge, and The Black Swan at Oldstead.

But with the addition of the Leeds restaurant, a Sheffield restaurant has lost its star. South Yorkshire restaurant The Old Star has lost the star it held since 1999.

Rebecca Burr, Editor of the Michelin Guide said: “The next generation of chefs are really coming through to give the established chefs a run for their money.

“They all have their own individual style and their ability – coupled with their confidence – looks set to lead them on to great things.”
