44 creative apprenticeships being created in Hull ahead of 2017

A NEW creative apprenticeships programme in Hull is creating more than 40 job opportunities for young people in the City of Culture 2017.
CapeUK, a Yorkshire-based creative education not-for-profit organisation, led a consortium which secured a grant of more than £90,000 from the Creative and Cultural Skills’ creative employment programme.
The grant will be used to offer companies and organisations involved in the creative sector a contribution to the wage of any apprentice they employ, and
the programme has already signed up employers working in music, theatre, dance, visual arts, galleries, museums and libraries.
Chris Strong, CapeUK programme manager, said: “We’re delighted to be involved with this innovative programme, the first of its kind for Hull and it’s great to see employers already getting involved.
“The creative industries are worth £76.9bn a year to the UK economy so the opportunities are huge for young people, both for those who want to be performers and those who want to take on ‘back-stage’ roles in exciting and vibrant workplaces.”
The partnership, working with Hull Training and Adult Education, includes Hull’s Cultural Collisions Network whose members are Hull Culture and Leisure, Hull City Council, Hull Truck Theatre, Artlink, Freedom Festival and City of Culture 2017 team.
Young people aged between 16-24 can now apply for the first round of apprenticeships which will begin in October.
