Countdown is on for edtech entrepreneur’s crowdfunding campaign

THE technology entrepreneurs behind Synap, a crowdsourcing test platform, are a hair’s breadth from their crowdfunding goals, with 92% of their £180,000 Crowdcube campaign already funded.

With 2 days left, the clock is ticking on the campaign, but with a huge surge of interest, the pair with their team which includes head of operations Stuart Clarke, head of technology Jason Gaved, and head of marketing Oscar Price, are close to their goals.

The biggest donation so far has been of £50,000, and the total has been spread across 96 investors.

Leeds University Medical School students 24 year-old James Gupta and Omair Vaiyani, the brains behind Synap, launched the campaign to raise capital for further marketing and product development activities.

The principle behind Synap is being able to create your own multiple-choice quizzes for exam revision and courses, which are then shared with other site users. Synap uses proprietary algorithms based on years of research from neuroscience and other fields to track students’ progress in different areas, and suggest what they should study next.

“There’s been a lot of research into how the brain works, and the transfer from short term to long term memory,” said Mr Gupta and Synap works under the idea of spaced repetition, a learning technique which sees people revisit what they’ve learnt after intervals of time.

Founder Omair Vaiyani: “We’re incredibly thrilled with this progress as our target is now within reach. This fund will allow completion of development, a national marketing strategy and key additions to the Synap team.”
