Morrisons continues to attack on all fronts

A HAT-TRICK of moves by chief executive David Potts will see big changes happening at Morrisons, behind the scenes as well as on the shopfloor.

At head office, Mark Harrison, formerly supply chain and projects director has now been put in charge of property as Morrisons attempts to rehaul its portfolio.
This follows the axing of the firm’s convenience store chain, M Local, which was sold off to investors.

Mr Harrison only took over his original role in supply chain and projects in February, but is a Morrisons veteran, having joined the firm in 1980.

Retail Week has also said that Mr Harrison was a pivotal figure in the development of the new logo, which is being trialled at the flagship Merrion Centre store.

In another change, which will be more immediately noticeable to customers, the grocer is removing sweets from its checkouts.

They will be replaced by confectionery with alternative snacks like fruit, nuts and bottled water.

Mr Potts said: “We have been listening to parents and guardians who have told us that sweets on checkouts can sometimes lead to pestering from their children. This change will make the trip through the checkout easier and less stressful.”
