Humberside to have prominent roles at Northern Powerhouse Conference

FORMER Deputy Prime Minister Lord Prescott and business leaders from Siemens and Green Port Hull will be discussing the role that Humberside can play in the Northern Powerhouse at a major conference in February.
Lord Prescott will be giving a keynote address while John Fitzgerald, chief executive of ABP Green Port and Robin Phillips, finance director of Siemens, will be part of a panel debate on the role energy will play in powering the powerhouse.
They will be joined by Matt Jukes, the newly-appointed chief executive of Hull City Council, who will participate in a panel discussion on the impact of devolution with other chief executives of the other major cities of the North.
Keith Griffiths, co-organiser of the UK Northern Powerhouse International Conference & Exhibition, said: “With the offshore wind turbine manufacturing facility currently being built in Hull the Humberside will play a major role in literally powering the Northern Powerhouse.
“The Northern Powerhouse agenda provides a welcome focus on the economic potential of the great cities of the North, but it is ultimately up to the business community to deliver the thousands of jobs and attract the billions of pounds of investment.”
Supported by the leading LEPs from across the North, as well as chief executives of major national businesses and international trade delegations, the two-day event will feature talks and interactive sessions with senior representatives from sectors as diverse as retail, transport, logistics, property, tech, energy and finance.
A host of other speakers are also scheduled to attend including Ed Cox, Director of IPPR North, Nicola Walker, business environment director of the CBI, and Piers Linney from Dragons’ Den and co-CEO of Outsourcery. They will be joined by a panel of leading industry experts including chief executives from UKTI, Arup, HS2 and Lambert Smith Hampton.
The UK Northern Powerhouse Conference and Exhibition takes place in Manchester in February 2016.
