Morrisons completes changes with fifth director appointment in three months

MORRISONS has made its fifth board appointment in three months as it continues to overhaul its management and governance.
Only finance director Trevor Strain remains from the board that was in place during former chief executive Dalton Philips’ time in charge. Andrew Higginson, who joined as deputy chairman in October 2014 and sacked Mr Philips as his first action on becoming chairman in January, will be the second-longest serving member once the current changes take effect.
The latest appointment is Rooney Anand, who is Greene King’s chief executive, who will join as a non-executive director on January 1. He has led the brewery business for more than 10 years, in which time it has become a pub, restaurant and hotel operator which will become the largest managed pub group in the UK when its £770m takeover of Spirit Pub Group completes.
Mr Higginson said: “Rooney had the vision at the start of the credit crunch to reinvent Greene King as a branded food based pub retailer. He is a widely admired and successful Plc CEO. His experience in retail, in fmcg and in turning around the fortunes of a major retail business, will all be put to good use at Morrisons.”
The other recent appointees to the Morrisons Board are Neil Davidson, Irwin Lee, Belinda Richards and Paula Vennells which, along with Mr Anand’s appointment, now “completes the process of renewing and rebuilding the board of Morrisons,” Mr Higginson added.
