New partners welcomed at Baker Tilly

ACCOUNTANCY firm Baker Tilly has appointed two new partners to its Yorkshire practices.

The appointments come almost nine months on from its merger with Horwath Clark Whitehill and have been described as key investments for the firm.

Tony Chapman will join the company to lead its forensic accounting team in the firm’s north region.

Mr Chapman will work closely with existing forensic partner Ross Maclaverty.

He joins from international law firm Pinsent Masons where he was responsible for building and leading a team of forensic accountants advising on the financial and commercial aspects of disputes handled by the firm.

Between 1997 and 2000, Mr Chapman was the financial director of the Knaresborough-based international precision plastics group BNL (UK)

Mark Pownall has joined Baker Tilly as a partner in the corporate finance department.

Mr Pownall joins the firm from BDO Stoy Hayward in Leeds, where he ran the transaction services team.

He began his accountancy career with Baker Tilly in Bradford in 1995.

He has Big Four accountancy experience in West Yorkshire and in London, where he has worked on a number of large private equity transactions and for several large corporate including Unilever and ICI.

Kevin O’Connor, Baker Tilly’s managing partner for the West Yorkshire practice, said: “Tony has been involved in the delivery and procurement of forensic services at a senior level for the past eight years and brings a broad range of skills and experiences to the firm. He has built and led teams dealing with the financial and commercial aspects of resolving major corporate disputes and advising on the financial aspects of major fraud, FSA and other regulatory investigations. We look forward to Tony leading our growth strategy in this area.”

David Gwilliam, Baker Tilly’s regional managing partner, said: “With continuing growth in our West Yorkshire practice, Mark’s appointment follows on from another significant hire earlier this year in the form of David Bagley.”

Baker Tilly merged with Horwath Clark Whitehill in February to create the largest accountancy group outside the Big Four in Yorkshire with a projected annual turnover of more than £20m.
