Storage facilities expanded after only seven months

A WAKEFIELD self storage facility from McCarthy’s Storage World is having to expand after only seven months due to demand.

The company initially invested £2m in the development of the 40,000 sq ft storage units on Kirkgate in Wakefield.

Now the firm is having to fit out more space into usable units, after 70% of the space they created in May was taken.

The new unit will be home to 300 storage units, ranging in size from a phone box to a tennis court.

Mike McCarthy, managing director of McCarthy’s Storage World, said: “We’ve been delighted with how well the storage facility has been received by the people and businesses of Wakefield.

“We didn’t expect to be converting extra room so quickly, but customers have been asking for more space, and for bigger and purpose built units, which we’re happy to oblige with.

“Businesses use us for storing stock or equipment, which can be seasonal, or we provide flexible and cost-effective space for the ever increasing number of internet/eBay businesses, who don’t necessarily have an office.

“Customers like the fact that they have a one off monthly fee including rates, rent and utilities, with no hidden extras and no fixed term contracts. This gives peace of mind at stressful times when people are moving home or for businesses looking to expand or contract as their requirements change in line with demand.”

Family-run McCarthy’s opened its first self storage centre in Leeds 10 years ago, and then in 2012 it was followed by Harrogate.
