Law firm saves 150 jobs with £1m of deals

CORPORATE insolvency and recovery firm MD Law have reportedly saved 150 jobs over the past three months.

A team led by insolvency lawyer Matthew Dixon completed five deals worth £1m of investment in those three months, including the purchase of Rare Restaurant in Leeds.

It was bought by Sheffield-based Avant Garde, which runs the Bamboo Door cocktail bar.

This was one of three transactions in which MD were working for joint administrators, managing to save jobs in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Greater Manchester.

The deals included machine and tool manufacturer Peak Toolmakers, based in Chesterfield, which was acquired by its sister company in a rescue deal that safeguarded the jobs of 46 employees.

The niche legal practice was formed by Mr Dixon last year.

Mr Dixon said: “Having this many significant deals under our belt so soon and for different corporate clients is extremely gratifying and shows the tremendous support and loyalty the practice and the team has from its clients.

“We continue to provide our expert services for our existing commercial clients and have already seen an increase in our client base to ensure further business growth for 2016.”
