Selling tickets is not such a Test as Headingley nears Saturday sell-out

THE attractiveness of Test Match cricket to Yorkshire’s sporting public remains strong with Headingley announcing the Saturday of the Sri Lanka match is nearing a sell-out.
Last week the venue announced major redevelopment plans which were in part driven by the desire to retain its status as a Test match venue for the long-term, which has become increasingly competitive in recent years as modern venues have staked a claim for the summer’s international fixtures.
Already 80% of tickets for day three of the May Test match have been sold. Sales are ahead of the same period a year ago, a number of areas of the ground have sold-out including the White Rose Stand’s Fanzone and Popular enclosures, the North East Stand, and only single seats remain in the East Stand and Main Stand.
“It is a great position to be in that we are heading for a sell-out on the Saturday of the Test match,” said Yorkshire’s chief executive Mark Arthur.
“With England improving with every series and players across the northern counties -including Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Durham and Lancashire – doing well in the squad, there is great interest in the game across the region. Having England start their summer season at Headingley is also a massive benefit to us.”
