Former manufacturing tech firm employees face criminal charges

TWO former employees of a Yorkshire manufacturing technology firm have been charged with bribery and corruption offences.

Michael Sorby, 72, and Adrian Leek, 39, worked at Sarclad, an industrial equipment supplier based on Whittle Way, at the Advanced Manufacturing Park.

They appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court today and both were charged with one count of conspiracy to bribe and one count of conspiracy to corrupt.

The offences concerned financial inducements which were offered to secure contracts for Sarclad. The alleged offences occurred between June 2004 and June 2012.

Neither man is currently with the firm – Mr Sorby’s directorship was terminated in August 2011 and Mr Leek left in January 2013.

Sarclad supplies technology products to steel manufacturers and suppliers in 46 countries.

In 2012, the company signed for more than 13,000 sq ft of space at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in South Yorkshire.

The next hearing in this case will take place at Southwark Crown Court on March 24.
